Hiking at Gremel

1881 Lewis Rd., Amboy, IL

Start your hike from the gravel parking lot and choose your own adventure! 

Hike from the parking lot through woods and past the Iris West Pond.  Return to the parking lot or continue your hike out to Main Pond (2 miles round trip).  Please DO NOT hike on the private road. 

 

Pass under the green vehicle gate and turn right on the fire break path and North Berm to find Main Pond.  There are many migratory birds in spring and fall.

West Berm leads around Main Pond where herons, frogs and turtles are active during three seasons.

Oak Tree Lane is an out-and-back trail where you can hear owls at dusk in the winter.

​

Loop Road Trail continues from West Berm trail, past ponds, a swamp and a stand of tall pines.  This three mile loop trail is a chance to see the different types of ecosystems that make up the Gremel Sanctuary.
