ICECF Grant News

Yesterday, the final day of November, volunteer steward Bob put in another long day (it was dark when he left the work site) removing invasive weeds and woody brush. He and the trusty DR walk-behind mower make a great pair! Volunteer steward Bill put in his regular daily hours mowing debris cut by volunteers, piling branches and weeds in the clamshell bucket of the John Deere tractor, and carefully burning debris on a brush pile. He too worked until daylight departed!

ENCAP, Inc. arrived this beautiful morning at 6:58 a.m.! The sun was rising; frost on the ground; the temperature was 19 degrees – a perfect day to work outside removing invasive weeds and brush.

Our grant project includes volunteer stewards and contractors. ENCAP, Inc. is one of our contractors. ENCAP, Inc. (encapinc.net) is a general contractor specializing in ecologically sensitive and water resource-oriented projects. Their staff is comprised of erosion and sediment specialists, native landscaping professionals and ecological consultants dedicated to practical land improvement solution. ENCAP, Inc. identifies and addresses ecological risk factors involved when undertaking projects.

We have utilized the talents of ENCAP, Inc. on previous projects at Amboy Marsh Nature Preserve and Gremel Wildlife Sanctuary. They do a great job and are careful to leave a small footprint even when doing heavy work. Founded in 1973, ENCAP Inc. has consistently adapted to the ever-increasing ecological risk factors and challenges facing land improvement projects.

Eddie and Pat and the rest of the ENCAP crew began this morning by asking lots of questions and looking at the grant project site with volunteer steward Deb. Volunteer steward Bill had already marked the perimeters of the work area with flagging. And they began working; the sound of chainsaws rang through the soon-to-be restored savanna!
